9:02 pm

This happened to my flatmate and her father, and when I heard it I felt it was something that fit here. They had gone for lunch at Cafe Rouge near George Street and really liked the music (Anna's father is a musician). The waiter who brought the cd over for them to write the name down said they could take it home and bring it back when they were done with it. Not the biggest of inspiring stories, but it means a lot when you're in the city during the Christmas season and everyone seems concerned with just getting to the shops, spending their money and getting home. Apparently, the waiter was also a pretty nice looking French guy!! :)

2:03 am - Things That Currently Make ME Love the World

[1] hot orange, passionfuit, and jasmine green tea with honey

[2] remembering to open the blinds before I go to bed so I am greeted by the warm sun the next morning

[3] driving into the direction of the sun in the late afternoon

[4] my chihuahua sleeping with me - he jumps on my bed every morning, greets me with a hug (yes, he literally hugs me by burying his head into my neck repeatedly until I squeeze him back), and curls up against me - I love the feel of his warm fur against my tummy.

[5] the extraordinarily amazing and profound writing, on this season in particular, of The L Word (one of very few TV shows that I don't consider mind-rot)

[6] California

Oooh, high quality radio aimed at young people like myself! Thank you CBC, thank you!

Oh yeah, and K.D. Lang's version of L. Cohen's "Hallelujah" really is hauntingly beautiful and... makes me love the world.

6:31 pm - does a sleeping city dream?

I just put all the community posts into the memories (sorted by who posted the entry) and I am really loving the fact that LJ automatically tells you when an entry has already been put in the memories, so you don't lose track and end up redoing a whole bunch!!
Anyone has any comments about the memories, or spots a mistake, let me know :)

8:37 pm - A Simple Pleasure...

The other day, I woke up at 6:47 am.

So I wandered into the kitchen and ate a bowl of cereal for breakfast. But afterwards, I was still extremely tired. So I just climbed back into bed and fell asleep.

Oh, the joys of summer vacation. :)

Rufus Wainwright's music (and, frankly, being able to listen to any kind of music on my computer) makes me love the world, even when the music's sad. I love being able to share emotions this way :)

Even when you're feeling crappy, there's still great music like the blues to let you get your feelings out and laugh at how lame your blues singing is :D

12:49 pm - feelin' sexy

Bam! I love new haircuts! New haircuts and forgotten comfortable t-shirts and Paul Simon's music! I also love Common Ground! I wonder what my horoscope for this month is?

"If you find a shortage in getting your needs met, the best you can do is celebrate yourself. (!) Yours is the only reflection you are able to see. Those nagging inner conflicts will find solutions in a new context. Before long the miraculous will stop and tap you on the shoulder. "

Paul Simon:

"When speech becomes a crime
Silence leads the spirit
Over the bridge of time"

Off to make vegan Cuban Black Bean soup from scratch! Ka-pwing!

current mood: sexy!

9:27 pm - This is why I became a teacher

Behold! The power of writing and imagination contained within one slightly eccentric 9 year old boy who was in my class when I did my practicum last year. This is a direct quote from something he handed in to me in June, 2004. I am going to withhold his name in case it's against the law to talk about little kids' names without their parents' permission, but he gave me the poem, so it's fair game! This student, and other misunderstoods like him, make me love the world! (P.S. his name is not Ken. I don't know who Ken is.)

Tittle [sic] (he meant title)
Ken is Fat

Ken is fat,
Ken is hungry,
He eats a lot,
And he never stops eating,
No food can escape from his mouth,
He is the champion of eating.

What makes this even sweeter is the labeled drawing of Ken (arrow and his name) fork and plate in hand, mouth wide open and the corn dog, cob of corn, slice of pizza, chips, hamburger, can of cola, and marshmallows on a stick that this awesome guy drew around his poem. I'm majorly impressed that he has this mastery of figurative language, not only by age nine, but also withing TWO MONTHS of moving to Canada from Beijing. Genius, I swear - even if he did like to stare at his fingertips a lot, and stand in the middle of the classroom rapidly flapping his arms up and down. Thanks, purposefully-anonymous-kid! You make me love the world!

P.P.S. ALL the kids in my class made me love the world, especially the one with Tourette's who would write swearwords in mirror-writing in his art projects becuase he could swear he saw them in the object he was drawing. *Sniff* I miss those guys!

current mood: jumpy
